Is cottage industry restricted in housing society bye-laws?

I am a member of a housing co-op. society in Thane (Maharashtra -India). I prepare and sell food items like chivda, alu-wadi, idli etc on a small scale and sell to the shop-keepers. I am doing this business since last 15 years in this society. I am not uitilising any of the extra space of the society. But now the committe members of the society says that doing such activity in a society is illegal. Are they right? Is there any bye-law of hsg society federation restricting such activity in a housing society?
