Mount harddisk with ubuntu 8.04 live cd?

I think ubuntu give you that message because windows wasn't properly shut down the last time you used it. You could try safe mode on vista by pressing F8 when booting up the computer. (All you have to be able to do is start vista and reach the login screen in safe mode and choose shut down. This will properly shut down and allow ubuntu to access the files.
