ism in medical billing?

Ever since my husband retired, I have been working full time and have insurance under my own policy with my husband as beneficiary. I am the only spouse working. In spite of these facts, doctors and dentists will send the bill to my husband listing him as the guarantor of the account. This may not be a huge deal, but I don't open mail addressed to my husband, and he doesn't always open his mail, and it sometimes ends up in the "round file". This could end up with no one paying the bill. I am frustrated with what I see as ism in insurance billing by doctors and dentists where office personnel seem to ume the husband is the primary breadwinner and policyholder. I will call to straighten out the problem only to have the same thing happen when I go in for some new procedure and update my file (which has the same info: I am working; my husband is not; I am the policy holder, my husband is the beneficiary. Any ideas before I start to picket in protest in front of their offices?
