Why does the ACLU always try to link two completely irrelevant things together while ignoring the other...?

As someone who is not that far from her teenage years, I can safely ert my opinion that when a teen is told not to do something, without a deeper education of why not, the first thing that they want to do is what they are told not to. The fear of fire and brimstone, at least in my opinion, is not much of a deterrent against the 'fun' stuff when you are in the 'nothing can hurt me' stage.
