Should i be using inverted commas here?

I'm writing an essay about Prog Rock and it's my understanding that words that aren't in the dictionary, or industry terms, should be used with inverted commas (single apostrophe quotation marks). So when i use the term 'Prog Rock' should i be using inverted commas or should i just treat it as a contraction and not bother (eg phone or hippo).
